Hello from Jerome Zukosky aboard V-42 Pilgrim at City Island, New York. Talking about anchors is one of the great pastimes of cruising sailors. Here is my two cents.: I use a 60 lb. CQR on 200' of 5/16" chain with 100' of heavy nylon backup and a FX-37 Fortress as secondary anchor. The Fortress sits upright lashed to the port mast pulpit. I use the port roller on the bow for my heavy snubber. On the East Coast and the eastern Caribbean the CQR has worked well as long as you can have sufficient scope; to my mind it still is the best all-round anchor but I do not have to deal with the depths of the guys up there in the Northwest.
Fair winds, etc. Jerome Zukosky.
