A close friend is prepping for the day when he sails off into the breeze. He's having a struggle finding affordable yeat-round live-aboard locales on either coast.

Any secrets out there? Any advice on what he should expect to spend for a slip, assuming a T42?

At this point, he's a free spirit, so don't hesitate to suggest an out of way spot!

Larry

Hi Larry,
Oak Harbor Marina in Slidell, LA currently has 50' slips for $300, livaboards ok. We are moving our boat there this month. They have about 15 slips available and are planning on building some 40' slips soon which will rent for about $250.

Hi Larry,
I have my V42 parked at River City Harbor Marina in Moss Point, Mississippi, which is just upriver from Pascagoula. The marina is brand new and still under construction. I like it because it is far enough up the river that it is quite protected. I'm paying about $320/month. They just finished building the fuel dock and the restaurant but don't yet have any haul-out capability. Moss Point is not what you would consider an "idyllic" locale, but that wasn't part of my criteria.

Near Washington DC...is the little known Tantallon Marina...It is a marina that caters to Liveaboards, but still under construction. Rates are on a transient, monthly, semi annual and annual basis. Annual is $8.75 per ft/month...transient is $1.oo per day. We have lived here for 8 months, and love the quiet calm atmosphere, although the bath/shower/laundry facilities are not quite done yet, but scheduled for completion early next year. Its located on Swan Creek, in a protected cove off the Potomac River. Mean low water of 6', which means going out and in at high tide only....New deep water floating docks will soon be opening, but there are slips available on the other floating docks. There are no fueling or maintencence facitilites, but as a living area, you are secluded, yet have accessability to the metropolitan DC area. BTW. Charts show a 4' channel, but it is 6'...We have no problem getting out and in with our Tayana 37', at high tide. Pump out facilities are on each dock. We have power, telephone and cable at slip holders expense. Water is free....We rent a slip, and love it here. If you need contact information, we will provide.
